About Rambouillet
The Rambouillet is a French variety of Merino. In 1786, Louis XVI imported Spanish Merinos to his Rambouillet estate, where they were bred to create a distinct line. Rambouillet sheep are therefore descended from Merinos but adapted to the French climate and conditions.
Rambouillet wool is also fine, but tends to be slightly thicker than Spanish Merino, with fibers typically measuring between 18 and 24 microns. It is also more elastic, making it ideal for sturdy yarns.
Rambouillet sheep are larger and more robust, adapted to more varied climates. This often makes them more resilient than their Merino counterparts.
